I was told.

Good evening ladies and gents, hoping that you'll wear your pants and shirt so you don't read this naked.

Alright lets begin.

For what agenda it was or to whom it may concern, I just got told there was this "Listen" phenomenon going on in my country. Not that I was alert of its presence, however it caught my attention.

I was born 19 years ago, in Ipoh a city where the time seemed to come to a stand still. What does that mean? Well, its been forever since that city has grown drastically socially & economically. However, its has been the town where I rely on, I grew up, I fell in love for the first time and the first city I saw a couple doing intercourse publicly. Wait, what?

Carry on, back in my hometown I had a lot of experience dealing with people that is not my race. Meaning to say, I am so accustomed to befriend with the multiracial crowds than the people of my own race and I love it. Maybe this pathetical history of my life has moulded me into this 19 year old young lady who loves to speak her mind out.

My parents has always taught me to adorn myself with values that will help me to grow as a mature person. For instance, I learn how to deal with non-Muslims perspective of my religion. Though it can be a painful truth and slightly disheartening to hear, but I do believe, our Prophet has taught us, not to disrespect other religion even if they do it to ours. Keep your Iman and faith close to your heart, and sooner or later, with Allah's grace, who would ever expect the friend of yours might actually give his/hers deepest concern in knowing our religion.

The thing that I realize lately, I see  a lot of Malaysians still at the "awkward" stage when interacting among each other. I do believe, this is actually the resultant of the language barrier. Now, take one minute to think, which country other than Malaysia, uses more than 2 language as their native language?
Exactly, I don't think we'll stumble upon the answer anytime soon. Growing up in a city that is occupied by 70% Chinese and 30% "others"  has sheered the screen of mine and come to a realization where most of the people in my city don't exactly talk in a language that we mutually could apprehend. Let alone getting along together?

Lets venture to the history of Malaysian Education for a while and try to search to smallest of your being, why do you think our education system is the greatest barrier in our goal to achieve "1Malaysia" ?  I prefer the term "unity". Why? Allow me to dismantle the painful facts that will knocks you off your six-inched stilettos because this is not something that we should be frivolous about. Having various kind of school of "slight" difference in curricular, its excruciating to see people of your own country doesn't know how to communicate in your own "mother-tongue" just because they have been surrounded by their own race who apparently, in similar, do not attempt to speak in Malay on daily basis. Put yourself in these poor human beings' shoe and try to phantom at the young age of 7, not knowing a single language other than that is spoken at home, trying to learn a new language, Malay language in particular and not having a single person to converse with. I am politely asking for your point of view, do you think it will work? Yes, I do agree it is possible to learn but on scale from 0 to 10, how good your Malay language will be if you never practice it? and you call yourself as a Malaysian?

Sometimes, I wish the Ministry of Education could be more stern and have the audacity to totally re-do the whole education system. Demolish the Chinese, Indian, Malay school that is available, and ONLY have one school where, regardless of your races and religions, place all the children in a single-curricular base school. That is the only way to have unity in this country.  Always start from the bottom and climb our self up the charts and "we" will be there, in phase with the united countries, soon.

Not to give myself credit to use profanity in this post, but don't fuck around and tell me about "Ketuanan Melayu" or whatever crap we use to excuse our self and allow prejudice to be practiced in this democratic country. Lets not be self-centered and begin with welcoming each other and actually learn to deal with each other, its always a two-way-street relationship, give and take. Warm reminder that we do not live in the 50s anymore, so lets move on from those eras and that my friend, does not mean I encourage us to forget the past, but we live now, the present that counts.

I hope this long and dreadful post may help you to see my point of view. Listen, I'm only doing this because I care.

p/s: I sound like an old nenek, well , nagging is a profound ability that is God sent, only for women. :)
